Pharmacy technician calculations practice

Try three exercises on converting units, calculating quantities, and finding days supply. Write down the units at each step, then open the worked answer.

These are fictional examples for study. Follow your instructor’s or supervisor’s procedures for real pharmacy work.

1. Convert grams to milligrams

A practice problem lists a mass of 0.35 g. What is the equivalent in milligrams?

Show the conversion

Multiply by 1,000 mg per gram. The grams cancel: 0.35 g × 1,000 mg/g = 350 mg.

2. Find the total quantity

A fictional order calls for two units per day for seven days. How many units does the order specify in total?

Show the quantity calculation

Multiply the daily amount by the number of days: 2 units/day × 7 days = 14 units.

3. Calculate days supply

A fictional package contains 60 units. The practice directions specify a fixed amount of three units per day. How many days does the package cover?

Show the days supply calculation

Divide the total amount by the amount used each day: 60 units ÷ 3 units/day = 20 days.

Practice again without looking

Come back in a few days and solve the problems before opening the answers. If you miss one, write down what went wrong and try a similar problem.
